| CNN Finds 'Lifelong Republicans' Who Want Universal Health Care ...
When it's the open market that fixes things, for example the prime loan problem. Let the prices fall, (and I have a house for sale that I am going to lose money on but that is the way it goes) let the foreclosures go forward and let the market make the adjustments on its own with out the help of big government. Government is THE most inefficient way of doing things that you can come up with. So is that the way to go or is there a better way. ElBaradei's Real Agenda
A.Q. Khan, the Pakistani nuclear godfather, exported nuclear technology around the world. In 2003, Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi confessed to an undetected weapons effort. Mr. ElBaradei's response? He rebuked the U.S. and U.K. for bypassing him. When Israel recently destroyed what many believe was a secret (also undetected) nuclear facility in Syria, Mr. ElBaradei told the New Yorker's Seymour Hersh that it is "unlikely that this building was a nuclear facility," although his agency has not physically investigated the site. The IAEA's mission is to verify that "States comply with their commitments, under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and other non-proliferation agreements, to use nuclear material and facilities only for peaceful purposes." Yet in 2004 Mr. ElBaradei wrote in the New York Times that, "We must abandon the unworkable notion that it is morally reprehensible for some countries to pursue weapons of mass destruction, yet morally acceptable for others to rely on them for security." IAEA technical experts have complained anonymously to the press that the latest report on Iran was revamped to suit the director's political goals.

A credit-card alternative
It's part of our ongoing efforts to give our customers as many payment options as possible." About 3 million people have signed up as Bill Me Later users. Most of them are women between the ages of 35 and 55, college-educated and married with kids, according to the company. It is a demographic retailers covet, but it is still a relatively small base, compared with the customer delivery potential of a new offering by PayPal. In August, the payment services company launched PayPal Pay Later, a service that gives consumers a credit line without a credit card. The company said the offering should boost its sales along with retailers, noting results of a study it commissioned that suggest 56 percent of PayPal users are more likely to spend if they can defer payment.
Wednesday's Letters to the Editor
John Buell's recent column criticizing the new economic stimulus package ("Stimulus plan not based on sound economics," BDN, Feb. 19) ignores history and the facts. He speaks of "new tax breaks for corporations" when some of the most important provisions will help the smallest of businesses, which are creating the majority of new jobs in Maine and the nation. For that reason, the National Federation of Independent Businesses was the only group lobbying to increase significantly the expensing limits for small-business equipment investments from $128,000 to $250,000. This will allow small-business owners to immediately write off equipment purchases and will help small-business owners expand and hire new employees. Another key provision in the package is a 50 percent bonus depreciation deduction, an incentive for businesses to invest now, providing an immediate deduction for half the cost of the investment.
TheStar.com | USElection | What's so Super about Tuesday?
Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will go head-to-head in 22 states, one territory (American Samoa) and among Democrats living abroad, including Canada. They will be fighting for 1,681 of the 2,025 delegates needed to become the Democratic nominee. This compelling political drama cannot end Tuesday night, but one of these candidates could emerge with almost unstoppable momentum. Republicans will be fighting over 1,020 of the 1,191 delegates needed for their party's nomination, and in a race that has essentially been pared to a battle between Arizona Senator John McCain and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, this one could end with McCain winning the nomination. How big are the stakes? When ABC News and The Washington Post asked Americans whether they were more interested in tomorrow's Super Bowl or Tuesday's Super Vote, politics essentially tied with football, an unprecedented showing for America's wonks against America's jocks.
